Driving SH6 starting at Newton Flat in the Tasman Region, and finishing in Lyell in the West Coast Region of New Zealand's South Island.
Lyell is the name of a historic gold mining town in the Buller Gorge, on State Highway 6. Lyell was named by the geologist Julius von Haast after the British geologist Charles Lyell, who was a friend of Sir George Grey, in whose writings had influence on Charles Darwin.
Newton Flat is a small settlement also on SH6 in the Buller Gorge.
