Driving SH1 from Waipara to Amberly, in the Canterbury region on the East Coast of New Zealand's South Island.
Waipara is a stunning wine-growing region in northern Canterbury, just north of Christchurch. Waipara Valley wineries are famous for their premium Pinot noir, Riesling and Chardonnay. The area doesn't just offer great wineries, but also other attractions like horse trekking, the scenic Weka Pass Railway, and a range of relaxing country lodges and accommodations.
Amberley is a busy rural service centre located approximately 50 km north of Christchurch, in Canterbury's northern wine-growing region. Only a short distance from Amberley towards the coast is Leithfield, one of the oldest townships in the Northern Canterbury region.
The town has an impressive range of cafes and shops, with wineries offering fine wine-tasting tours and gourmet meals. The area is renowned for its impressive country gardens, with a good range of accommodation options for visitors.
