Driving SH60 from Riwaka to Motueka, in the Tasman Region, on the western corner at the north end of the South Island of New Zealand.
Riwaka is a small town near Abel Tasman National Park and Kahurangi Naional Park, and is situated beside Tasman Bay, five kilometres north of Motueka, and close to the mouth of the Riuwaka River. Riwaka Valley is the home of the Riwaka Resurgence, and can be reached on foot. The source of the Riwaka River is an underground spring flowing from a cavern in the Takaka Hill, where you can see the water bubbling out of an underground cave
As the closest town to the Abel Tasman National Park, Motueka makes a great base to stay and explore the Tasman region further. There are plenty of cafes in the township and a colourful Sunday outdoor market. Located in the centre of a rich hinterland where orchards, vineyards and hop gardens flourish, you can pick your own berries in season and enjoy local apples, pears and kiwifruit. The Motueka River is famed for its Brown Trout and fly-fishing lodges.
