Driving from Taieri Beach to Taieri Mouth, in the Otago region on the East Coast of New Zealand's South Island.
Taieri Mouth is a small fishing village situated at the mouth of the Taieri River, with the Taieri River estuary sweeping through a bush-clad valley to meet the bright white sand at this great seaside fishing town.
A great spot for swimming and surfing with the picturesque Moturata Island just off the shore. The town is the perfect place to picnic with Livingstonia Park right by the beach. There are wonderful walking tracks like John Bull Gully and the Millennium Walkway.
Taieri Mouth is also the start or finish of Otago's Forgotten Coastal Highway.
The annual Coastal Classic mountain bike and run/walk normally takes place in November. This event is a highlight for the local calendar.
